Harder Announces $115,000 Grant for Mental Health Training in the Valley

Today, Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) announced that Sierra Vista Child & Family Services will receive a $115,635 grant from the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) to provide mental health first aid training to first responders, schools, seniors, veterans, and community members to improve mental health in the Central Valley. Sierra Vista serves more than 20,000 children and families each year and operates in every school district in Stanislaus County.

"Last year, more than half of folks across America with a mental health condition said they didn't receive any care at all. That number breaks my heart and I'm doing everything I can to fix it," said Rep. Harder. "This $115,000 grant will allow Sierra Vista to train folks across our community in mental health first aid, breaking down that barrier between physical and mental health that still exists in so many places. We have a long way to go to ensure everyone gets the mental health treatment they need, but this is another great step in the right direction."

Through their continuum of services, Sierra Vista Child & Family Services meet the needs of thousands of children, families, and individuals who struggle with mental health issues, child abuse, domestic violence, social behaviors, special education needs, parenting, and challenges within the family unit, and more.
